HVAC Contractor
What you need to know about HVAC contractors
When you shop a new furnace, the options can be staggering. It helps to have someone who knows what they’re talking about to help you decide which furnace is best for you. This person is known as an HVAC contractor, or someone who works in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning business. These professionals are certified to work with HVAC products and are very knowledgeable about their jobs. When it comes time to repair or replace your furnace, turn to the experts and get the most for your money.
How to Choose a Heating Contractor
Most people will open to the phone book and call the first HVAC contractor they see to fix or replace their furnace, but this is not a good idea. First, you have no idea if the person you’re getting to deal with a major investment in your home is reputable or not. Doing your research and interviewing at least three contractors is a better way to make a decision. If you need emergency repair services, the phone book method may work for you – after all, you’ve got nothing to lose in that situation and everything to gain.
Choose residential heating contractors by:
- Making a list of desirable local heating contractors. These people may be residential or commercial heating contractors, but they should all be certified, complete with proper HVAC training.
- Ask for written estimates for your job from each contractor you call.
- Ask them to provide references, and then call the references they provide.
- Draw up a contract and don’t be afraid to have your lawyer look it over. If one estimate seems drastically different than others, don’t be afraid to ask why and have them explain their reasoning.
What can you do if your chosen contractor doesn’t do his or her job correctly? If he or she has not followed the contract, you can sue them for breach of agreement. However, if they have followed the contract and you are not satisfied with the job, ask the company what sort of recourse you have. Most contractors have been specially trained by the manufacturers of their products, so you may be able to appeal to the manufacturer as well.
Choosing an HVAC contractor carefully can definitely pay off in the long run. Always ask questions and don’t be afraid to speak up if you’re uncomfortable with your furnace installation. Get the most for your money and hire someone you can trust.
